It isn't that it is hard, it is just very time consuming.
At my location, closing bussers have to do a lot of things, and because we are shortstaffed, it is not uncommon that I have to close by myself on some nights. These people have families and this is how they feed their children, and if they aren't being given tables they get worried and anxious and it honestly hurts me to see.Ĭlosing. This one explains itself, Darden is a shit corporation that barely pays its servers and seeing the servers I actually like suffer honestly hurts me. This one doesn't, she just says I can do it and random encouragement that will work for a 10 year old, and then gets pissed off when I'm behind.Ĭapitalism. The other managers that close will either help me or delegate the hosts to help me.
She never helps me, even when I'm by myself. She is usually helping out at the bar, the host desk, or the to go stand. This manager is an unobservant, forgetful, unorganized idiot who never helps me. However, this is more of a hatred rather than a distaste. In fact, there's only one manager here I don't like. Obviously not every manager is going to be great. To combat this I started to take everything but their plates to send the servers a message that they need to do their shit, and they still won't take their plates half the time. One day I timed it, and one server didn't prebus her table for 40 minutes and it would've been longer if the hosts didn't call that table. I know this is an issue that happens probably everywhere, but it is still annoying that sometimes I have to clean up after the servers because they wont do their jobs. Servers not prebussing, taking batteries out of the ziosks, leaving tea pitchers in the dining room, etc. I am a high school student, I don't have time to work that much, and in the last half of summer I didn't have much time to myself. When school started in mid August, one busser went to college as we hired another one, and we hired two others soon afterwards, but we are already back down to four and I am having to work 5 days this week. I was almost scheduled to work another six day week when I even asked off work for that weekend, but I spoke to my GM and he let me take off since I asked for that weekend off two weeks in advance, which is what we are supposed to do. The only day I had off was Monday and I only had Monday off because I am unable to work that day due to extracurriculars. Two quit a couple weeks after I started, and I was working six days in a single week, two weeks in a row. When I first got here, there were five other bussers. There will be a TLDR at the bottom if you don't want to read all of this.īussers are shortstaffed. I am not sure if I am being a baby or if this is genuinely a toxic work environment, so that is why I am sharing this information here. There is a lot of things wrong here and I am tired of putting up with it. Not just the job of being a busboy, but working here in general. I began my first job as a busboy at Olive Garden three months ago, and I am sick of it.
